Republic Day signifies the adoption of the Indian Constitution and the establishment of India as a republic

The theme of this year's Republic Day is 'Viksit Bharat' and 'Bharat: Loktantra ki Matruka', symbolizing India's aspirations and its role as a nurturer of democracy

Significance:

Commemorates the day in 1950 when the Constitution of India came into effect, officially declaring India as a sovereign, socialist, secular, and democratic republic.

Event:

On Republic Day, the President unfurls the flag at Rajpath, commemorating the formal adoption of the Indian Constitution. The act of unfurling the flag represents the reaffirmation of the principles and values enshrined in the Constitution of India. It symbolizes the country's commitment to democracy, justice, liberty, and equality.

The unfurling of the national flag is accompanied by the playing of the national anthem and followed by a parade. The entire ceremony is a reflection of India's identity as a sovereign, socialist, secular, and democratic republic.
